My favorite person in the Bible is the apostle Paul.
Since I was young I have loved reading about the life of Paul in the Bible. I have always been attracted to his zealous take-charge attitude and passionate spirit. Because leaders are zealous. Leaders are passionate. And I want to be a leader.
Leaders are zealous.
As a Pharisee, Paul violently opposed the spreading of Christianity. He went out of his way to persecute and even kill the followers of Christ in Jerusalem. So how did he become someone whom many credit as one of the most important figures of the Apostolic Age?
We read in Acts 9, that while Paul was traveling to Damascus, the resurrected Christ appeared to him in a great light. From then on Paul is forever changed. After finding Jesus and changing his heart, Paul spends the rest of his life spreading Christ’s message. He begins to defend Christians and establish church’s wherever he goes with zeal and courage in the message.
Leaders are Passionate.
“So I run straight to the goal with purpose in every step. I fight to win. Not as one that beateth the air.” – Apostle Paul (1 Cor. 9:26)
Leaders are driven by passion and purpose. They have a fire lit under them and they feel compelled to accomplish their objectives. There is no place for apathy in the life of a leader. No patience for laziness. Paul travels day and night, tirelessly sharing Christ’s message with anyone who will listen.
And Paul never gives up. Even after being imprisoned in Rome, he continues to fight for truth. Like Paul, we may not have to die for what we believe. But will we have the courage to live what we believe? Most likely, no one is going to behead us for sharing our good news. So what holds us back? Today I am going to “run straight to the goal with purpose in every step”. Will you?
